On Art + Mental Health

My journey with mental health starts with my vision of self. Being a young Black girl growing up in predominantly white or mixed race spaces, it was important for me as I grew up to identify who I was. I knew that images of successful, beautiful Black women were few and far between in media and as I grew into my art practice, it was always important to me to portray that. To me, one of the steps towards Self love is representation. If you have a vision of what you can be, then it aids in taking steps towards self actualization and pride.
