He previously worked as a Behavioral Health Supervisor, and Hospital Liaison, working to increase interdepartmental communications between the LMHA and University Health Systems Hospital to serve and advocate for patients of the highest acuity while undergoing inpatient treatment. He continues to work extensively with non-profit organizations on the Eastside of San Antonio, and Bexar Counties Strategic Advisory Council, to advocate for psychiatric patients with comorbid diagnoses as they transitioned to the outpatient setting. He has built a strong partnership with Crisis Intervention Teams within the mental health authority and Bexar County Justice Department to reduce recidivism rates at the jail and local hospitals.
Johnny received his MS degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The University of Texas at San Antonio and his BA in Psychology and Kinesiology from The University of Texas Permian Basin, where he also played and captained his college soccer team for 3yrs. When he isn’t advocating for psychiatric patients in the inpatient and outpatient setting, he works with student-athletes to promote their collegiate aspirations both on the field and in the classroom.
